In the glass. Tends towards fuller, somewhat firmer wines with more body than tension, provided the drainage is right. Because it is a mixture of three formations, this code says little about style in itself. (weak indication)

A catch-all on the map: clayey Triassic, Rhaetian and Hettangian have not been separated here. It comprises variegated clay and marl from a dry coastal plain, above that Rhaetian sandstone from when the sea returned, and finally thin limestone and marl from the first Jurassic sea. In the ground you see mainly clay with sandy layers and a few thin hard beds, roughly 235 to 199 million years old.

For the vine. Clay dominates, so the water buffer is in principle large, although heavy clay can crack in persistent drought and hold water so tightly that the vine can no longer get at it. The downside is a cold, wet start in spring and slow drainage on flat terrain, so that slope and drainage decide everything here. The lime content varies widely within the same unit, from virtually lime-free clay to marl with active lime, so the chlorosis risk differs from plot to plot.

Among other places at the foot of the slope in the Côte Chalonnaise around Buxy and Montagny, and in the valleys of the Mâconnais where the Jurassic limestone ends against the old massif.
