In the glass. What this substrate gives cannot be separated from the high, cool position on the slope and the shallow soil. No wine style can be attached to the formation itself. (weak indication)

An irregular alternation of white marl and hard limestone beds, deposited in brackish lagoons and freshwater lakes at the end of the Middle Eocene (Bartonian, Marinesian), roughly 39 to 38 million years ago. The fossils are freshwater snails such as pond snails and ramshorn snails, not marine animals. The layer is thin and lies high in the sequence, often just below the plateau edge.

For the vine. The hard beds drain and the marl holds water, so rooting varies sharply over short distances and neighbouring parcels respond differently to drought. The soils are rich in lime, with a real risk of chlorosis, to be determined per parcel. Because the unit usually lies at the top of the slope, the soil there is thin and aspect counts more than the rock.
