In the glass. Tends towards supple, early-drinking wine with limited concentration. The stone content and the thickness of the clay layer in the plot make more difference than the label alluvium suggests. (weak indication)

Gravel, sand and rounded pebbles that the rivers left behind on low to middle terraces in the Pleistocene, usually topped by a few decimetres of brown or red-brown clay. The pebbles are largely limestone, alongside material from the crystalline and siliciclastic hinterland; the mixing ratio depends on the catchment. The terraces lie as flat steps above the present valley and cannot be dated precisely; the low terraces are younger than the middle ones.

For the vine. Gravel-rich and very well drained, and often slightly warmer than the surrounding plain, primarily because of the better drainage, the drier topsoil and the slightly higher position above the valley. The downside is drought sensitivity as soon as the clay layer on top is thin; where that layer thickens, the profile is heavier and cooler instead. Lime-rich gravel means a moderate to high active lime content, and the flat position makes the plot prone to frost.

Forms the terraces along the Saône, the Dheune and the Ouche, largely under the regional appellations.
