The youngest river deposits, from the Holocene to the present day, so roughly the last twelve thousand years. Sand, silt, clay and gravel in the active floodplain, still in motion at high water. Variable from place to place, because every bend of the river deposits something different.

For the vine. Even flatter, wetter and younger than Fy, with a water table that can stay close beneath the surface. Water is never the problem here, vigour and late ripening are, and frost sensitivity in April is high. Only where the deposit is gravelly enough is drainage acceptable.

Along the Saône and the streams that run out of the combes into the plain, outside the hillside appellations.
