In the glass. Around Irancy mainly upper slopes and plateau edges; the Pinot Noir and César of Irancy stand largely lower down on the marl. Tendency towards lighter, fresh wine. (weak indication)

Non-reefal, bedded limestone (25 to 27 metres thick) from the Upper Oxfordian, deposited on a calm, shallow carbonate platform south of Auxerre. Forms the plateaus and upper slopes around Irancy, Vermenton and Cravant.

For the vine. Shallow, hard and free-draining, with a high lime content; quick to warm, drought-prone. Usable where a cover of clay or colluvium deepens the profile.
