In the glass. In the Massif de Saint-Thierry, Meunier from this ground is described as supple and fruity; Pinot Noir from the marly parts slightly firmer. A nuance in the blend, not a style of its own. (weak indication)

Calcareous sandstone and sand (Mont Chenois) with grey marl beneath (Chenay), deposited in a shallow coastal sea in the Thanetian, late Palaeocene. It is the base of the Eocene hills of the Massif de Saint-Thierry and the northern flank of the Montagne de Reims, directly above the chalk.

For the vine. Mixed profile: where the sandstone outcrops the soil is light and free-draining, where the marl dominates it is heavier and wetter. Moderate lime content. Usually a mid-slope with good aspect.
