In the glass. Tends towards supple, easy wine without much tension, suited to early drinking. This is a position in the landscape rather than a terroir with a signature of its own. (weak indication)

River and stream deposits in the floor of the valleys: gravel, sand, silt and clay, sorted into layers by running water. The material was laid down during the last ice age, roughly the past 120,000 years; the youngest deposits fall under Fz. It is by definition a mixture, because the composition depends on what the river carried down from upstream.

For the vine. Deep, easily rooted and often with a high water table, so the vine has ample water and easily develops too much vigour. Cold air sinks to the valley floor, so the spring frost risk is higher there than further up the slope. The more gravelly the deposit, the better the drainage and the more usable the site.

Mainly on the flat valley floors and at the foot of the slopes, where predominantly regional appellations lie.
