In the glass. In Vézelay, Chardonnay from this marl is described as full and round, with less tension than from the limestone above. Small area; read as a tendency. (weak indication)

Alternation of marl and marly limestone with the bivalve Pholadomya, deposited in a calm, somewhat deeper sea in the Lower and Middle Bathonian. On the Vézelay map sheet it forms the gentle slope below the hard Bathonian limestone of the hilltop.

For the vine. Marly and water-retentive, lime-rich, slow to warm; on slopes well rootable and drought-resistant, in flat parts too wet. Chlorosis risk from active lime.
