In the glass. Little has been published on this. It is expected to behave much like granite, with fragrance and finesse rather than mass, but that is reasoning from the rock and not observation. (weak indication)

Magma that stalled just below the surface and therefore cooled faster than deep granite: fine-grained, hard rocks such as microgranite and porphyry, around 340 to 331 million years old. It belongs to the same volcanic episode as the tuffs and often occurs as dykes cutting through older rock. At the surface it breaks down into angular grit and gravel with hard blocks in it, coarser than the arène of the deep granite.

For the vine. Acid and lime-free, so chlorosis plays no role here. The ground is gravelly and free-draining, warms readily and holds a small water reserve, so drought in hot years is more of a problem than wet feet. Roots have to find their way along fissures in the hard rock, which forces the vine to go deep.

No verifiable outcrop example included; the unit occurs mainly as dykes within the old massif of the Beaujolais.
