In the glass. Near Vermenton and Irancy ground for slender, fresh wines; the Pinot Noir of Irancy stands mainly on the marl beneath. Read as a tendency. (weak indication)
Hard, partly oolitic and reef-like limestone from the Upper Oxfordian, the former Rauracian, deposited on a warm, shallow platform. The same unit as j5b-c and j5cM on other map sheets. Near Vermenton and Cravant it forms the plateaus and upper slopes along the Cure and the Yonne.
For the vine. Shallow, stony, lime-rich and dry; quick to warm, little water and limited root space. A fully fledged vineyard soil only with a cover of clay or scree.
