In the glass. It is to be expected that the wine turns out firmer and broader than on white chalk, but the area is small and nothing has been recorded about it. (weak indication)

Grey to grey-green marly chalk, poor in flint, which forms the base of the Turonian; the thickness differs per map sheet, see the notice. When dry it is hard and compact; when wet the marly character comes to the fore and it becomes greasy and sticky. Lower Turonian, roughly 93.9 to about 92.5 million years old, the zone of Mytiloides labiatus (the former Inoceramus labiatus).

For the vine. More clayey and denser than the white chalk above it, so less permeable and slower to warm up: spring starts later and wet plots stay cold for a long time. Against that stands a good water reserve, which counts in dry years. Rooting goes less deep than in porous chalk, while the lime content of the soil remains just as high.
